So I guess I am the billionth guy to write a blog? Or maybe a guy writing the billionth blog? It doesn’t really matter; but then again, in this berserk, selfish, crazy world, what does?

‘Kaizen’ stands for ‘continuous improvement’. Now, most of you may associate it with management gibber-jabber. Well it’s true. Kaizen is widely used by managements around the world to continuously improve the business. Kaizen is a Japanese word that means “a change for the better”. Why do we have to take such a beautiful word and limit it to managerial usage?

Here, I use the word Kaizen to point towards continuous improvement of thought. Not on a micro scale, but rather, a macro one. And obviously, to study anything on a macro scale, we must first look at it from a micro point of view.

What is thought? Well it’s hard to explain. We all know what it is. We all do it. (I hope we do!) But what is it exactly? And why does it need improvement?
I think that thought is the birthplace of innovation, logic, reasoning, rationality, musings, emotions etc. Thought, for the most of us, is an effortless activity that is most frequently unproductive. To make it productive, we must put in effort. Only by being consciously aware of what we’re thinking, will we ever be able to understand our thinking process. And how will we ever truly understand ourselves, if not for that?

Here is where Kaizen comes into play.
Human thought is filled with massive potential. It is through continuous improvement that we will be able to achieve this massive untapped potential. It happens in the regular course of things. As time passes we do get more and more out of us. But through conscious effort, we should be able to achieve greatness.

Should we not?
